Cry out louder,Darterong Pinoy!!!

It is a pity to see Lourence Ilagan in the national television calling the attention of our Governtment to support him in his plight. Our best dart player expressed his sentiments as an athlete who never missed to bring honor to our country in his international stints. Just recently, he bested Ray Carver of USA to bag the Bullshooter Asia Championship in Hongkong. He was also awarded as the MVP of the same tournament! Notwithstanding the lack of support from our government, he proudly waved the Philippine flag during the awarding ceremony - making sure that the world knows that he is a proud Darterong Pinoy! I just hope that somebody connected to the Philippines Sports Commission had seen the episode in GMA news so Lourence will be heard. GMA 7 should also be given credit for showing support to Lourence and to the Pinoy Darters who share the same sentiments. Believe me, the depth of talents for darts in the Philippines is tremendous! Darterong pinoy is world class! What they need is support!- may it be from the Government or from Private indivuals/firms. Manny Pacquiao has started showing support for the Philippine Darts by sponsoring high-payout tournaments. Hopefully, he will soon extend that support by providing Lourence and the other top Pinoy Darters SPONSORSHIP. :) For now, there's not much we can do about it except to CRY OUT LOUDER!

Cherry-out!

It's been a while since my last post but that doesn't mean that I was totally out of the Darting world. In fact, I still frequent our local bar to throw some darts. I also see to it that I get to throw darts every time I get home from work. Darts in our town has gone sour though. The local bar where I used to play doesn't hold tournaments as frequent as before. It is not because players have stopped but I personally think that his sports bar is not doing good at all. It could be an effect of economic slow down or it could be because the darter-owner was addicted to poker. Whatever the reason is, local darters should keep on practicing.Afterall, darts in the metro still continues to gain momentum. Tournaments are regularly held in varoius venues within the metro. It is always good to know that NDFP is committed to propel darts in the Philippines into new heights. With the support of federation's President,we will continue to enjoy darts! In no time, Philippines will produce fine darters who will carry our flag in international darts scene.

Lourence Ilagan...Our Country's best?

Looking back at his performance last year in the local and international dart tournaments,one may conclude that perhaps he's our current best. Last year he won almost every single tournament in our country and in some places in Asia. The most remarkable achievement he had last year was his back-to-back championship titles in Darterong Pinoy and 2008 Philippine Qualifier to the World Darts Championship wherein he displayed awesome darts throwing 12 to 15 darts in the finals. Internationally,he bagged the Japan soft tip Monster Trophy and placed second in the Malaysian Open. Seeing him throw his darts then made me feel confident that we have a good chance in the World Championships. Late last year,however, after getting his World Qualifier title his darts seemed blinded with the pressure and the "high" of representing our country. His performance was affected and it showed in a couple of local tournaments before his appearance in Ally Pally. I've seen him ousted early in Philippines International Darts Open(PIDO) '08 and heard of his downfall in the prelims of Pacman Cup in GenSan. I have always believed in his skills and dart-struck at this guy since I saw him play but having heard of his share of bad darts created some apprehensions that he might not be able to show his form in London. True enough,he fell short when he faced the ever-confident Marko Kantele from Finland in Alexandra Palace last December. His so-so performance in succession in local tournaments definitely lowered his confidence level. Coupled with so many factors,his stint in London was not as successful as Pinoy darters wanted it to be. Nevertheless, he still showed power in his darts and many international spectators were still impressed by his showing. Darts..in Philippines Senate?

Yes! And I told you Darts is gaining a tremendous popularity...Not that senators are getting those steel tips stuck in a bed but the event is sponsored by the senate office thus entitled "Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile Cup"...and yes,the event will be held at the Senate Food Center, Senate of the Philippines, GSIS Center, Pasay City. It is slated on Thursday February 12,2009. Registration time is at 4pm and game time is 6pm (i just don't think the games will start 6pm sharp but be early so you could still flex those throwing arms).

Mode of Play: Classified Doubles Double KnockOut, 501 best of 3 winner's bracket, 701 single game loser's bracket.

Total guaranteed cash prize php25,000.00. Prize breakdown: php12,000.00 champion plus trophies, 2nd place: 6,000.00; 3rd place: 3,000.00; 4th place: 1,500.00; Joint 5th (5th/6th) 750.00/team; Joint 6th (7th/8th) 500.00/pair.
Oh,btw, registration fee is Php200 inclusive of one ice cold beer (just right to start your engines roaring!).
I'm sure we'll see more of these politician-sponsored tournaments as we near the 2010 elections. I'm not saying that it's bad... In fact, it is what our sports needs today - SPONSORS! So, keep them coming please!
